24 Jun BEAUTY-JUNKIE
I have to admit. I’m addicted to beauty. Perhaps it is quite natural, but it has not
been until recently that I understood just how important it is for my well-being,
how crucial it is for the quality of my life. I eat and drink beauty, it gives me
nourishment that is a very important part of my total experience of life. There are
many types of beauty to focus on: home decor, the vain kind of beauty, fashion,
architecture, etc., but what has proven to have the most nourishing power for me
is the beauty that is not created by man – nature. That which just is in its effortless
simplicity. The beauty of nature reminds me of the effortless beauty that is in me
and all, the beauty that is there – so clear and obvious – long before I come in with
my intellect and assess or compare. If I just relax I see this beauty all the more
obviously, and I see it clearly in myself, others and everything. This, dear friends,
is the most comfortable place to live from!
The paintings that come about in my studio all have their starting point in this
place in me, in openness, playfulness and an exploration, where the beauty is not
sought for actively. I add coat after coat of paint and slowly but surely a vibrant
background comes about that shape the image gradually. I discover the compositions
and the beauty here in a similar way to when I walk in the forest and open up for what
can be seen and discovered there. The beauty is just there. Simple, like an invitation
not to complicate things, because everything I need is already there in front of me.
My job is to make it visible.
