02 Sep CELEBRATING THE WALK
I want to celebrate the walk. Getting out after sitting at the computer a little
too long, or having had an intensive meeting, or when I feel low, frustrated
and a bit lost. Or when the thoughts are spinning in my head. There is nothing
that beats a walk. Ideally, it is taken in the woods or along country roads among
fields and meadows. The power of the walk for me is to get moving, breathe fresh
air, soak in the current season, see nature and to be in my body. It is a form of
grounding. Coming back to the basics. Relaxation. Reset. Because even if the
thoughts keep spinning, they do not take hold, it is easy to let them flow on by,
just like the wind. I let all the emotions come and go, just like the landscape I pass,
which is also constantly changing, I don’t go into the stories. I drop everything,
just for an instant. Believe me, this has a magical effect. The mind becomes clearer,
the soul is lifted and suddenly I get insights and find solutions to exactly what I was
banging my head against the wall about just a minute ago.
It is a gift to give yourself moments when you can let things just flow through
you and be open to everything. To trust that you will know when the right thing is
presented in this flow, just the thing you need. An insight, an understanding, a
clarification, a solution.
My paintings have their origin in all these walks in the forests and landscapes,
when I’m on my way but without a specific goal. As part of this flow compositions
and images are captured and stored in me, and later on they appear in my paintings
as reminders of the simplicity and well-being of just relaxing.
